These two pieces were my third attempt at journaling. My first time making this type of piece was when I was in NAHS last year and there was a workshop after school for it. My second time was when I was in Art I and we did a project on one specific theme. I'm not sure if I got better at journaling or worse, but the piece I love more is the piece below.
I don't really have names for either of these practice journals, but, now that I think about it, I think I'm gonna call the one above Doll House and the one to the right Quietly. I didn't have a plan for this one so I can't say that my ending wasn't what I originally planned. I looked around at what I had to use and just put stuff together. The theme is kind of a death/angel kind. Kind of creepy, I know, but I had no other ideas! I was just going through the newspaper and there was the Obituary section. I kept looking, but the section was just so big and lots of words and barely any pictures. It was sort of what I was looking for so I slapped gesso on the page and put down the newspaper and random pictures, papers and cloths I found that I thought went well with the Obituary paper. | I was originally going to have the barn, the girl, the trees and a dandelion flower really big on top the whole thing. Instead I just put a pair of hands reaching down as if they were going to change the setting and move things around like a doll house. I did that instead because I spent too much time looking for a gigantic dandelion that was perfect for my practice piece. It was kind of difficult for me to find the right things that I originally wanted for this one so I just ended up grabbing random stuff and putting them on so that it looked natural. I don't know why I do, but I just like this one more than my next practice piece. My next one wasn't planned as much as this one, but still turned out pretty good. |
